Water infiltration in buildings: diagnosis, correction, and prevention - Win27
NEW FOR 2027
Continuing education in the construction field
Topics covered:
Sources and mechanisms of water infiltration (rain, groundwater, condensation, plumbing)
Building envelope: roof, walls, windows, foundation, and critical joints
Diagnostic and Inspection Methods
Corrections, Repairs, and Preventive Measures
Consequences: mold, rot, loss of energy efficiency, liability
Overall Objective
To equip participants with the knowledge to understand the causes of water infiltration, diagnose it correctly, correct it permanently, and prevent it from the design and construction phases onward.
Specific Objectives
Identify the main pathways through which water enters a building
Distinguishing Between a Leak, Condensation, or a Plumbing Problem
Apply a structured diagnostic approach
Choose the appropriate corrective actions based on the source and scope of the problem
Incorporate best practices for prevention into new construction and renovation projects
Contents
Basics: Water Pathways, Moisture Management, and Building Envelope Principles (Rain Screen, Air Barrier, Vapor Barrier, Dew Point)
Vulnerable areas: flashings, openings, wall-to-roof and wall-to-foundation joints, balconies, drainage, and waterproofing
Diagnosis: visual inspection, building history, indicators and detection tools, common mistakes
Repairs: Targeted Repairs vs. Major Repairs, Sequence of Work, Coordination Among Trades
